This is my mix and match, personal choices based on my likes and dislikes. Cannondale would have scored much better for instance if they didn't sound like they were about to explode. I find that quite unnerving, and, they are butt ugly. I didn't include any quad that is not currently manufactured. I like my Baja a lot, but have to give it up to the Z and Predator for overall performance. I could live with any of my top three picks just fine, in fact I would love to have one of each.
I just don't care that much for my son's Raptor, it is widened, lowered, works shocks, HMF slip-on, Pro-Flo, but it just doesn't do it for me...and the rest, well, thanks, but no thanks. The rest of my list is purely academic.

This is my opinion for STOCK quads. Once you start modifying, it becomes YOUR quad, not the quad that was manufactured.

 

Well, I'll list the first 5:

Banshee because of the engine's potential and longevity. Rules in the dunes.
ds650 because of the big chassis, good motor and huge suspension travel.
Z400 because it's the best mid sized sport ATV with liquid cooling, reverse and good handling and good hop-up potential
Any Cannondale because of the aluminum frame, fuel injected engine and ingenuity. Reliability is the downside.
Raptor - could have been better if it was lower, wider and longer.

1. 250r ( The model in which most quads are made from, the complete package)
2. Cannondale ( All i can say is wow what a machine, handles as good as a 250r, fuel injected way ahead of its time)
3. 400ex ( A typoical bullet proof honda great handling and suspension in its prime)
4. Raptor ( A 4-strokers duning dream with the exception of short and narrow wheen base)
5. Banshee ( A real hill shooter with subpar handling and suspension)

When it first came out, for a stock bike, the Z400 is one of the nicest all around bikes I have ever ridden. I thought it handled well, had good power and steered quite well. Only downside I thought was the parts availability although that might have just been my dealer as z400's are not too popular around the interior of B.C., hence not a large parts inventory for eitheir aftermarket or otherwise

 

Predator: Best all around choice!
Raptor: Next best all around + Reverse
LTZ400: About the same ballpark as the Raptor! More motor better handling take your pick.
Cdale: Great handling Light weight, a little to high strung for me!
400EX: Great all around ride, low on Power.
DS650: Great Suspension, well made, Comfortable, A little big and heavy!
Banshee: Fast and feels way fast, weak suspension, Poor handling!


Only Listed current models, Any one of the bunch would be a fine choice!
