DS650 LIKES/DISLIKES
#1
what are your likes and dislikes on the DS 650? I'm trying to decide on which big-bore sport machine to buy this spring and the DS is the only one that isn't plagued with problems according to these forums. Is there a way to get away from the rev limiter? How about the Baja? Is the extra $700 worth the money? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

The likes are everything. The dislikes are the cost. It is alittle more pricey than the other quads out there, but it is worth every cent more. It is very reliable. I have not had one problem with mine so far. As far as the rev limiter I would go with the Ron Woods CDI, And a K&N filter, jets, and a pipe. It really wakes them up. As far as the upgrade to a BAJA, it is definitly worth the extra money.

dislikes - high cost of aftermarket goodies, compared to other quads.
likes - this unit is built like a tank. 530 chain, tapered bearings, bullet proof engine (NO AZSAND I didn't say GRENADE proof) etc.

Thanks for the replies everyone. After reading the posts on this forum, I have noticed that the DS has the least amount of issues. As far as cost, that is not an issue if the machine is that bullet proof. Between the Raptors early woes in the transmission, the axle and cracked frames on the Z400/KFX400, and the lack of improvements on the Honda's, and the even higher costs of the Cannondales, that basically leaves the DS as "King of the Hill." Too bad they don't offer them for $5099 again like they did a couple years ago. Then the upgrades would be even easier to buy. I just wish they would have them available in yellow. Guess I would have to opt for the Baja. That black and orange is pretty sharp.

I would love to have the V-Force if I knew for sure that it was going to be as reliable as what I have seen with the DS in the posts. AlsoI would like to see this machine be a "NO HOLDS BARRED" machine. There are a select few that want the type of machine that will flat out haul, and I'm one of them. If the V-force proves that it can pull 3-4 lengths on the DS in a 300 ft drag, handle like the Z400/KFX400 and the Honda's, I might go that route.
I posted in another thread that I would like to build up a V-Force and race it at Pike's Peak, but not knowing how good this machine is until it gets into the public's hands, I'll hold out. Manufacturer's claim that they abuse their machines before they go to the dealers is a crock. When we see axles bending, frames cracking, water pumps leaking, oil seals leaking, a required oil change after an hour of break-in to find your oil has more glitter than a dozen of your grandma's X-mas cookies, or just no improvements other than BNG's, it makes the buyer beware of first year machines. For something that is anywhere from 1-3 years in the making, it better be designed and built for the purpose intended. And then to get shot down from the manufacturer when a design flaw shows up.
So far the Bomber looks like the better deal.

i love my ds, if were to buy a new atv right now i would get a baja, i'm not really that impressed the the vforce, but i've never really been a big fan of automatics, n the shaft drive would be reliable but you could never change gearing to match different tires

LEP7MM..
Next time we hook up you can take mine for a spin.. I was just in St Peter for Xmas but I left the DS at home. Mine is NOT even close to the fastest in the forum but it really moves. I just ordered new Razrs today. I will be ordering the CDI on April 3rd ( It's my goal for not smoking). It really woke up just with the pipe and jets. As far as handling I did the suspension setup and it made a HUGE difference I can't wait to see what happens with REAL tires. The only thing I dislike is its width. But you only get into trouble when your not where your supposed to be. trails are never 50" max, thats only when you go off trail to avoid mud and such.. It jumps like a dream and its a SOLID runner... I can almost bet you would not be disappointed.
