ALBA POWER PACKAGE????
#1
has anyone tried this mod from alba? what ratio is the piston? also, how good is their porting?in dirt wheels this month they list a power package with piston, cams, porting and all gaskets.it doesnt say anything abuot the valve springs being included but the titanium springs are listed below.the package $799 and the springs are $159.so if you add that up its $950 for a new top end with porting included.also,i want to keep the stock carb or trade my brand new TM45mm for a HRS42mm if anyone is interested.THANKS.

Why are you wanting to trade down? If you bump up the compresion, add cams, and port the head, you'll want to increased flow of the 45MM. The TM and the HSR are the same carb, you would just be trading the 45MM for the stock sized 42MM. The 42MM flat slide will flow slighly more than the stock CV style carb, but you motor will want the extra CFM provided by the 45MM. Without it, you will not see the full benefit of the other work you do.

i just couldnt get it to work, maybe its because the motor work hasnt been done yet i dont know.i fooled with it till i almost went nuts and im just going to try something else.by the way,do you know anything about the Alba power kits? on page 34 in the new dirt wheels its listed for $799.i dont want a big bore just bump up the compression.anyone know what the compression ratio is in this kit?

chop, I have the hsr42, I can't say its any easier to dial in,(it has the accel pump as well)i've disabled the pump and am running it that way, its fine as long as you don't wick the throttle quickly from idle. I haven't yet invested in any new nozzles. I think i'll wait for the duals.

I did the piston, cams, porting, exhaust combination when I first got my DS. I tryed the stock carb for a while also, and was not pleased with the gains I got. I bought a Woods 45MM carb, and had the same problems that every one else talks about. The throttle was so stiff my thumb never got used to it. I fought with it for ever to try to get it to work without the pump, so my thumb would have a break. With all my fighting, I adjusted everything I could, but never replaced anything but the main jet. I finaly took it to someone that said he could fix it, and in less than an hour, he had it running great, and the throttle was easy. He gave me back the bike and a zip-lock bag of parts. The bag had 3 springs, a needle, a pilot jet, a main jet, an accelorator pump nozzle, and maybe something else, I don't remember for sure. He told me that he had to change everything in the carb from what Woods had in it.
All I know for sure is that the 45MM will work great if it's dialed in properly. The 42MM is tuned the same way, although maybe not the exact same sizes and positions of everything. If you don't like one, you most likely won't like the other. If you find someone that can dial it in for you, you'll love it!
