Scrambler 500 plug change
#1
How do you guys change your spark plug in the 500? I bought mine used, it only came with a universal owners manual. I'm looking to buy a service manual. I like to do my own work. Thanks.

i had to take the front plastic and the tank off just to get to mind. ask if you can't figure out how to get the stuff off and ill try to help you
the plug is on the very top of the engine and sets way down inside of it it has a long red ( or atleast mind was) rubber boot on the very top.
and i think you'll need the special puld wrench that comes with the bike
its a pretty stupid place for a spark plug if you ask me

I am going to have to check my pulg this spring. I looked in my Polaris service manual and it doesn't say anything about where the plug is located or how to get to it. You would think that if you have to remove the front plastic and gas tank that it would cover something like that. Mudracer, I bought mine used and it didn't come with the tool pack. Will a 5/8 spark plug wrench and a long extension work? Also, How do you adjust or inspect the valve clearence. Is it even needed?

The plug is under the front part of the gas tank under a long red boot. I would say it is A LOT easier to reach if you take the front plastic off. Don't ask me how, but I was able to reach mine with a lot of patience while the plastic was on. Just make sure there is NO dried up mud around, above, or near the plug that can get knocked into the hole. I have the manual, BigBadScram, and if you want me to scan the valve adjustment procedure just email me when you need it.
P.S.
Make sure you set the plug gap according to your owners manual.
And yes!!!...it is a very stupid place for the plug...can they make it any harder to get to???

I've got a 99 scrambler and I cut my plastic on the right side under the tank like in a horseshoe and now I just reach my hand in and do what I got to do. Yes I know not everyone wants to cut ther plastic but hey I got a 99' it's been rode hard, rolled twice and still kickin #ss people can talk $#@* but you can kill my motor good luck and happy trails.

You do not need to remove anything to change the spark plug on the 500 Scrambler, except for the plug wire itself. You do need the spark plug tool that comes with the machine. I just did mine tonight, took about 5 minutes. Don't get me wrong, its pretty hard to reach, but with the tool it comes right out. Be very careful when removing the plug wire, pull on the boot, not the plug wire itself or it will pull out of the boot. I can't imagine removing plastic and tank to do it, buy the tool.

i don't know i didn't really look to see if i could get to it with the plastic on i had all that stuff off anyways so i figured id do it then
i had to get some new valve cover bolts because 3 or 4 where missing and it was leaking oil. i think you need the tool or a really long socket because that thing is down there i think the very top of the plug is even or below the top of the engine.
OffRder15 id like to see how to adjust the valves too.
if you do scan it. thank you
