Default My TBoss sputtering on initial throttle...Help!!! I Can't figure it out.....

I have recently been trying to figure out whats wrong with my 01 TBoss. This is what it is doing, Starts up fine, as you press the throttle just a little (maybe 1/4") it begins missing sort of like the sound it used to make when the reverse speed limiter was hooked up, it only misses at this point until you get close to 1/2" throttle it runs fine all the way to WOT. When riding in the woods and you let off it misses just as you mash the throttle until takes off and screams like a demon. I had the carb cleaned, checked for anything out of adjustment or ordinary. I was perfect only a little residue. Drained and Cleaned the Fuel Tank, and I changed the inline Fuel filter, no change. Then I changed Spark Plug and rubber boot. No change. Turned the idle up, no change. Adjusted the throttle cable, still misses like in the beginning. I can't figure this D**N thing out. Could I be pulling in to much air??? Have uni filter and snorkel removed which I ridden like this for over a year. I need help bad. I am very frustrated with this piece of POLARIS machine.

Some one please list me all the common causes for my bike to miss only at 1/4 throttle and no where else. AT WOT it runs great no missing or backfiring.

Help Out If You Can,
Thanks Guys

I have a Polaris 700 and had sort of a flat spot at just off idle. I also had a problem with the choke not working right. What I found out was the idle mixture screw needed to be about 1/3 turn richer. This fixed my problem. It came on all of a sudden, after I had ridden in for over 300 miles. This is something you might check.

Take your carb off and clean it out sounds like the pilot jet maybe stopped up or partially plugged.

West Virginia is cold just like PA. You need to adjust the carb for cold air. It will sputter with colder air. Lower or raise your needle clip 1 slot and I bet this will take care of it. Oh also close your air screw all the way and then open 1/2 turn to 1 full turn then see what happens. You are getting too much cold air. It needs to be richer.

I'm with ftwflh on this one. I'm almost certain, your carb pilot jet is gummed up.

Be sure to check your air filter. I had kind of the same problem with my 00 trailboss the filter didn't look bad. Prorider suggested this might be my problem he was right I took the air filter off just to try it and it ran good. This may or may not help but I would try the cheepest thing first.

As I mentioned in my post I have cleaned the carb completely. Removed Jets and cleaned as well. It actually seems to be running a little richer than before so I moved the needle clip down to 4 position still no help. I put it back on 3 so that if I do get the problem corrected I won't be too lean. I recently put a small rubber patch on the rubber diaphram which had a small hole it, causing me to loose power. I rechecked it and its holding just fine and made sure the rubber is seated properly. Both cables pulled out and lubed to prevent any freezups.

****I have a question that just came to mind, I read earlier that the 4 brass carb screws on top of the carb have to be torqued to a spec. Is this true???? What is the tourque spec??? I have had tighted them to the point just before stripping the head. ****

Another, could it be the vent line is in a pinch???? What are the symptoms of this on level ground revving???? I have read the hill stalling and hard to start back. I did notice when its idling and it chokes off it is an extreme pain to restart even with pulling the choke.
