Smoke coming out of header pipe???
#1
OK, so I went out to mess with the jetting on my bike, I switched around the position of two of the spacers on the needle to see if I could get it running right. Anyhow so I start up my bike and immediately smoke starts coming out of the headers. I turned it off, but then started it back up to see if it would still do it. It did, but only for about 20 seconds. So I let it run awhile, only got 1 pop from the carb on the first rev(an improvement) and after about 3-4 minutes of letting it run I notice smoke coming from the rear of the pipe. I also notice that the rubber piece where the pipe is mounted close to the shock is torn in half, and this is where the smoke is coming from. Has anyone had any problem with this thing breaking like that?? It's a RW pipe. So I'm guessing the pipe is getting really hot and burning the rubber piece. Any suggestions for fixing that?? Thanx for helping.

Try removing the rubber bushing and cleaning the pipe really well. Make sure to get all of the burnt bushing and rebolt without the rubber piece. Try running it again and let me know. Whats puzzling me is that it started smoking immediatly. Usely takes a few minutes for the pipe to reach operating temp. Also it would take a few more minutes for the bushing to start burning.

This may not be your problem, but.........I had this happen on my Baja not to long ago. I started it and it smoked for about 30 seconds also. it ended up being that my radiator hose clamps were loose and were dripping on the header after I just it off. Then next time I would restart it. It would smoke till the coolant was all burned off. Just something else to check.
