HOW TO INSTALL RWR CDI on 03' DS650/BAJA
#1
Can someone email me the directions on installing the RWR cdi on Baja/03' DS. I recieved my cdi without any instructions and the plugs are completly different. Also the RWR has 6 wires and the stock one has 5. A wiring diagram and simple potato head directions would be great. THanks

Here you go...
RW-cdi...to...Baja-wiring
red......to...red/violet
white....to...black/yellow
orange...to...white/green
black....to...black
blue.....to...black
green.........not used
Not sure if it matters which black wire goes to blue, but mine worked right the first time around.
I pulled the pins out of each connector and then connected the wires together, then heat shrinked each connection, then wrapped with electrical tape, then wrapped the whole mess with electrical tape. It has worked fine for over a year now.

Does this mean that they aren't producing a CDI box with the Baja plug already on it? If that is the case I think someone needs to step up to the plate, buy a few male and female connectors, and make a bunch of DS to Baja and Baja to DS adapters, it's pretty lame to pay $300-ish bucks for something and have to jury rig it to get it installed.
Now that I have my Baja, I plan to buy a CDI and other goodies for it, and put the Baja CDI on my 2001 DS, which means I need to fabricate connectors for both machines unless someone comes up with that first.

EXACTLY. Thanks. I wish to avoid cutting and splicing on the new RWR CDI box I just bought. Especially after dropping close to 300 bucks on it. but would rather just have an adapter plug. It kinda irks me as well that it did not specify that an adapter and or jury rig setup would be needed to make it work with my quad. If anyone knows where I can get an adapter that would be great.

Ok I finally did it mounted the RWR cdi on my 03' DS. This is what you need to do.
1. Look up battoutahells wiring diagram, its right on.
2. Take the plugs/wires outta the RWR wiring harness/plug and put them back in so that they will match up with the quads wiring harness/plug.
3. Ok deep breath, Take out your Dremel tool and grind/cut the bejesus out of the quads wiring harness/plug so that you can get it to fit inside of the RWR plug.
4. Liberally coat the whole new mess/wiring harness/plug with silicon to seal it up.
This all worked for me and is just and alternative to the cutting and splicing method. I would still like to know what the green wires for? I hope this doesnt void the $700 waranty I bought. I decided not to mess with the RWR harness/plug just in case I needed to send it back.

There isn't supposed to be a rev limit with the RWR CDI.

There is no rev limit with the woods box.
And I did not cut or splice anything. The little pins can be removed from each connector and one is male and the other is female. they slide together nicely. But there is nothing to hold them together without the connector, so I used some heat shrink tubing to hold them together.
Anyway, glad you got it to work. I would not switch mine back to stock for anything.
