Default 03 Kodiak 450 revlimiter???

I got a new Kodiak and when I'm out playing I've noticed it seems like there is a revlimiter in 4WD lock. When my 4wd is locked and my RPMs start to get a little high it cuts out, I am not even coming close to over revving the motor, should I be taking it in for warrenty work? Any ideas on how I could fix it myself? Thanks for the help if you have some.

As far as I know the locker is for rock crawling and very difficult terrain. I don't think there is any advantage to have it locked in on regular terrain. You won't be able to turn that well with it locked in. That's probably why there is a limiter. You might tear up the front diff if you where to turn it on terrain that won't let the wheels slip. And you might wreck if it jerked suddenly. Just my 2 cents worth.

I don't know how fast you are riding but I know on my Grizzly the rev limiter in diff. lock is at 22mph. I am sure it is the same on the 450. If it is cutting out before that I would definatly take it in for service. Also if you are hitting the22mph rev limiter in thick mud that is one thing but if you are just riding that fast in diff lock you are crazier than I am. You will mess around and end up in a tree!

Thanks, I was riding across a field with about a foot of snow on top. I was moving a lot faster with the diff locked than without, but the revlimiter was a little annoying to say the least. At least now I know it is supposed to happen. Have you ever had trouble getting it to lock in deep mud/water?

I have 27" ITP 589's on my Grizzly I just got them and have not had to give it enough gas yet to hit the rev limiter. You would not believe the way these pull through the mud. I would highly recommend them for mud or snw riding. They also work good on hardpack. On the Grizzly there is a way to overide your rev limiters both in reverse and in diff. lock. Lots have done it and love it. I am sure there is a way to do it on the 450 just not sure what it is. If you go to the highlifter forums there is alot of info on this when you do a search. Good luck.
