250 EX choke problem?
#1
just wondering what can I do to keep machine running when I choke on cold starts, I always have to keep throttle featherd until it warms up, did this from day one, it runs perfect when it is warmed up and starts fine then, but on cold starts it gets agravatting holding finger on gas until it warms up I tried all postions on choke to no prevail does any other machines do this, after re-jetting it still does this, the only thing I did not change was the pilot jet would this have somthing to do with it?

Ours has done that from day one, never got it worked out, when i did adjust it where it idled then when the choke was off it idled too fast. Finally gave up with it and started up my quad and bike then went to hers and just sat with it till it was warm.

hey guys....easy fix..a slightly bigger pilot jet could fix your problems.or ...turn the mixture screw out until no change in idle is detected...if this doesn't make enough difference you can pull the screw completely out and file half of the point(you will see what I mean) from the tip...I would recomend just buying a replacement and modifying it(stock part at Honda less than $10)...hope this cures that cold start problem

Its no big thing to me, it only takes about 30 seconds before it will idle on its own, i've adjusted the pilot enough times to know that short of filing it down wont work. Gonna try that out on a replacement though and see how it does, thanks for the thought.

my wifes brand new 250ex does the same thing, it real wierd to me, cause every other choke iv ever used on all other machines keeped it at a high idle till it warmed up, this little honda is real strange, must be mechanically differnt than the other choke setups, anyway she justs has to hold the throttle for the first 30-45 seconds, i dont see any way around it, ive moded it a bit and rejetted a few times, the choke always worked the same.

my 300 and 400ex are like that.. they wont run by it's self with the choke on if the motor is cold....
my brothers 300ex is like that.......
but his rancher will run at high idle if choked when cold.......
thats just the way it is.........
just sit there and warm it up.....

Same here, must be a defect (or a feature) from Honda. Anyways, I dont like it and its hard on the starter if you have to keep starting it when its cold.
