Default 85 250r twist throttle

I have been trying to find a new twist throttle and cable for an 85 atc 250r with a 39mm carb, I found a twist throttle that says it is for 28 to 40mm carbs, but the only twist cable I could find were for an 86 atc 250r. does anyone know if the 85 and 86 cables are the same length? any info will help, thanks

They should be the same, very little change between 85-86. Also the 86-89 trx250r used the same carb and engine, so those will work too.

I have several twist throttles which I'll trade for thumb throttles!

I would too, I feel twist throttles on powerful atvs are pretty dangerous.

thanks for the input, I ended up getting an 86, cable and a 28-40mm twist, the cable housing was to long so IT took some modifing to get it to work. I will agree a twist has it's disadvantages when steering, But they are alot more fun then a thumb, especially on a high reving 2-stroke.

I believe it is more a matter of preferance than anything else but had too many close calls to continue using a twist.

One I could remeber was landing a little to one side. My butt fell through the right side and that was enough to have my wrist twist the throttle wide open off a 20 foot ledge. I have many more stories like this but I will not bore you.
