I run 10's on the front and for alot of trail riding, which I do, I would not want any wider...
But I have a pretty good offset on the rims so, if a person went with a different offset it might not be to bad
Hope this helps

I am running Maxxis MUDBUGS on ITP chrome and black rims, you can see pics at the link below
The High performance kit doesn't help the top end at all, at least not that I have noticed... it makes a big diff on the low and mid though
Hope this helps

You cant change the top end speed because of the ignition rev limiter. It governs the rpm of the motor so no matter what you do it wont go faster unless you change the ignition box to an after market one that doesnt limit rpm.

boss . . . The rev limiter is only concerned with controlling the maximum speed of the ENGINE (max RPM), not the ATV. Any change in the drivetrain will affect the ratio between the engine speed and the ATV speed. For instance, a 450 with its transmission in 1st gear and its engine speed at max RPM, may go approximately 15mph – with its transmission in 2nd gear and its engine speed at max RPM, it may go approximately 25mph. Considering the tires as part of the drivetrain, one can see that changing out the stock tires with ones that are taller of shorter effectively changes the drivetrain and will affect the ratio between the engine speed and the ATV speed. Thus, provided the engine has sufficient power, taller tires will propel the ATV faster than shorter tires (and vice versa) at the same max RPM. It is possible that some aftermarket tires could increase the load on the engine to the extent that it could not reach its max RPM – though the ATV’s max speed may still be as fast as with stock tires. In this case, the engine could be modified (e.g. higher compression, higher air/fuel flow) to increase its power output and allow it to again reach its max RPM and therefore increase the ATV’s max speed. Either case suggests that an ATV can be made faster without changing the rev limiter.

You are 100% correct on that point. I was assuming that he was already at the rev limiter with his desired size tires. It sounded to me in the question that he was asking about the pipe and jetting mods changing the top speed which it wont if he is already up against the limiter. My mistake in "assuming." We all know what that does. I hope I didnt confuse the matter for any one. Good call Tex!

I put 26" Goodyear Mudrunners on my 450. They work great! I ride pretty much the same terrain as you do, so I didn't really want a "mud tire". The Mudrunner fit the bill perfectly. It's excellent on trails, and hardpack, and yet aggressive enough to handle deep mud. The longer center lug allows them to ride smoother than other aggressive tread tires, and is proven to reduce steering effort. Trust me, these tires are awesome! The cheapest prices I've found on them is at http://www.treadepot.com . Check'em out.
