scram 500 engine wont budge?
#1
Took my 98 scram 500 out for a spin. The starter wouldnt turn the motor, so i used the recoil. It seemed pretty tight. But it started and ran fine. I tried the starter again, and it still wouldnt turn the motor. So i tried the recoil again. This time it wouldnt budge. I pulled the pvt case off and tried to move it and it wouldnt move. Is the motor junk? What could it be? I just bought it, hope its nothing major.
Thanks

Sounds like a stuck motor.Hope you didnt give too much for it.Take the plug out and see if it will turn over,if not check the valves then pull the head and cylinder. If the bottom end is bad you will have to pull te motor.

Well i just got back from the garage. It seems like its the recoil. It is kinda rusty. So i sprayed a little pb blaster in it and got it to free up some. I got it running again.
Could that be the prob?

Could be but it really needs to be taken off and cleaned so you dont mess up the stator.

I took the recoil off. The problem seems to be right behind the flywheel. Sounds like there is a little bit of scraping going on behind it. I guess i will take it apart and see what is back there.
