250R Project
#1
I am wanting to do a 250R Project quad. I know that I would have a great deal of money in it. That is not an issue. I am looking at a frame on ebay. I have been told that buying one already built is the way to go. Part of the fun to me is working and building it like you want it. I want to do something custom. Custom powdercoat job and custom color plastics. I was wondering what I need to do when going about it this way. My first thought would be to work on the chassis. Is this correct? I would want to extend it with at least +2 a arms. I would also want to extend the swingarm. How long? +4 or +6? What brand of a arms and swingarms should I go with. I know there different companies that are really good. I don't want to spend a small fortune it this but I want to get good products that can hold a lot of horsepower.
What I am asking:
- What brand a arms and swingarm?
- Where can I get the powdercoat work done at?
- What size a arms and swingarm?
- What size and brand of axle?
- What do I need to consider when doing this?
- What products should I give a look at?
- Any other input you can give me.
If you think this is a dumb idea don't post here. Don't tell me what it will cost because money is not an object.

The main thing you/we need to know is where and what type of riding will it be used for?
It does sound like a sand bike, +4 on the swing-arm, it would be to large for a play bike. With just a little more info there will be more opinions "than you can shake a stick at!" A rolling chassis may be the way to go many companies will give you a bare, un-finished frame to be coated to which ever colour you may choose.
Roll design, lonestar, offer rolling chassis, or pretty near. They can be set-up for different styles of riding.
Used motors are fairly easy to come by, usualy around $1000.00, new colser to $3000.00.
Well good luck, with a few more details we can be of more help.

hey dave seeing how money is not a big thing for u can i have some, becouse for me money is a BIG deal.lol but anywho i would put a bigger motor in it than a 250,i would go with somthing much bigger.and in my opinion dont do a bunch of crome crap on it,there are plenty of atvs cover in crome,it wouldnt be one of a kind, you know?

you mean like a bigger base line motor? Then i would disagree. Of course my opinion doesnt mean jack, but when you start putting large motors in a light frame it just seems to go slower. The 250r is such a potent motor because it weighs 60 pounds and can produce nearly 90-100 horses with the right combination. You start throwing 140 pound thumper motors in there with 140-150 horses then your not gaining performance, your losing it. I would stay away from the LT500 motors as well
