Hello everybody I'm a new member and atv owner.I have a couple of questions for you Polaris owners. I purchased a V-plow with my sp600 with the intention of plowing my drive in the winter
and maybe landscaping in the summer.Needless to say I've been using it a lot lately! I live in nor-
thern lower Michigan and it gets really cold at times, especially now! My question is-is it a good
idea if I buy an engine heater(I don't have a garage much less a heated one) If so what is better
a coolant heater or engine heater? I guess my real question is do these products really work or
are they just another gimmick?
My second question is-What kind of gas mileage can I expect? I seem to be using a lot of gas and
have been since I bought it.My dealer questioned Polaris about a different carb. jet setting (for
wintertime) bu they said it was'nt needed.Antbody in the northern climes have an opinion?
I look forward to hearing from you good folks!

Yes buy an engine heater. Just like a car a block heater saves wear and tear on the starter and battery. As for burning gas I can drive my SP 335 for 8 hour in the fall on a couple gallons but plow my driveway four times and the tank is empty.( because of extra warm up time and hard pushing.)

Hi, Like you I'm new to the game. I bought a V plow also but have not taken delivery on the plow yet. I don't have the block or coolant heater but have not had any starting problems with it. We have had some -25C nights lately. I have a friend in Timmins Ont who also has a Sportsman 500 without a heater and doesn't seem to be having any problems. Mind you we both keep our machines in garages. If you can keep the wind off them, it's amazing how much that helps. I do agree though that a block (oil) heater probably does save the engine. Make sure not to raise the revs any more than need be to keep it running in the first few minutes of warm up as that seems to be the worst thing for engine wear.
