When watching XC events, ive noticed that only some racers are sporting nerfs, as opposed to guys in MX who use them all the time. Theres a good bit of close racing when trying to get around that lapped rider or starts and stuff, but never had them on any quad ive owned. Just wondered if anyone has tried them in the woods or in XC events. Good or Bad?

Basically, it comes down to rider preference. I think they are required equipment for MX. The majority of the people who race the GNCC's do not have them but several do. The main reason the people use them in cross country for the starts which can get a little rough. If you ever need to put you foot down and push the bike backwards they can be a hinderance.

They also work as bumpers against trees when the trails get tight and twisty.

As far as amature racing goes...they are not required....But if you have ever had someone get a tire jammed betwen your tires....you will wish for nerfs. They have saved me more than once.

A friend of mine had a wheeler run right up his leg before....I think He believes in nerfs now too..... They don't work all the time...But it's nice to have the extra bit of security in tight places..... They also work well for bumping off trees in woods style racing.

They can be a real help in the woods but also a hinderance. Like was earlier stated, if you gotta push they kinda suck. But they do act as bumpers as well. Also, they get torn up pretty easily in the woods. If you get them, get a pair with replaceable nets. I made the mistake of not doing this the first time and just recently had to buy a new pair cuase there was nothing left of the old ones.
