400 Scrambler RCR Stage 1 Kit
#1
I finished the installation of a RCR Stage 1 kit on my Y2K 400 Scrambler 2X4, and it seems a little loud to me ( and my neighbors - they haven't formed up in the street with pitchforks, torches and hunks of rope looking for a sturdy oak tree. If that time comes I'm changing my screen name to Dr. Frakenstein!! LOL ) anyway, are there any quieter silencers that will work with the mid range pipe?
I don't want to anger the neighbors loading the quad into the truck in the morning, if you know what I mean.....

True, Ricks silencers are a bit loud, but I've grown to like that distinctive sound.
I don't know what Db rating his are, but if your interested HPD has a 94Db USF approved arrestor. FMF as well has a quieter silencer, but I'm sure of the compatability of the two with Rick's pipe. Ricks are repackable, try using different (or more) fiberglass.

I put a 90 degree elbow on my silencer and it helped make it quieter. It looks pretty cool too.
I found an old unused 1 1/4 inch chromed brass
sink drain p-trap and cut it off a little after
the threads. I attached it with a radiator clamp.
A 90 degree copper water pipe elbow would work too. I got the idea from my '93 Sportsman, the stock muffler points straight down.

Well from the testing I did by ear galvanized
pipe was the quietest but not very cool looking.
The sink drain pipe I used looked the best but
with the thin wall it's not as quiet as galvanized
or copper. To tighten the galvanized or copper
you have to make cuts a 1/2 or so deep into the
end your clamping. Not needed with the thin brass.I would guess that any way you turn it down you could make it from 5-10 db quieter.Takes the edge off anyway. I only did because
I'm going to be riding with my wife behind me
and I don't want her to dislike riding. So I
guess it helps the riders to the rear a little.
