I would let the dealer know about your concerns and ask them to give you some kind of warranty on the belt. Maybe 3 months/ 300 miles, something like that. I don't think that anything would have been hurt in a towing contest, but it may have accelerated wear on the belt. Maybe dealer would be willing to install new belt? If so, get them to put the EPI black spring in at the same time. You will want it anyhow!

I would be more concerned about how it was riden as a demostrater, I wouldn't worry to much about the pulling, we have pulled from day 1. The most your out is a $90 belt, have the dealer throw one in and offer him something less than he asked. The bike should still have a one year warrante on it. If he doesn't like your offer, Walk.

Adirondack, had good advice, about talking to the dealer and the black spring.

I think its all realitive to what kind of deal your getting on the bike. I just bought I used 650 with 470 miles on it, and I looked around a little. Depending on your area Wholesale is 4,000 - 4200 and retail about 5600 - 5800. If you were getting this bike near wholesale I would go for it, but if your paying near retail I would not. I would try and find a clean used one in your area with an extended warranty.

My 650p was a demo. I picked it up for 8200 cdn(financed) and it has a winch.faring, rack extentions and a gun boot.
Since the retail in canada is 10300 +tax i think i got a good deal. If you look around the deals r there.
OOh it had 800 km when i bought it june 2002, it now has 2200km.
