Default Broken Upper Spring Retainer

I broke the upper spring retainer on both of my Trailboss 325’s. When it breaks the spring will rest on the frame and it will take ~1" of travel out of the spring preload. It is a die cast part and mine had a lot of porosity in it. Since Polaris does not cast these parts I am curios if there is a casting problem and who else may have had this problem and my be not only on the Trailboss. I have since made my own retainer out of Al6061 and it is holding up.

I had a small piece brake out of my race bike, although I ride it hard and do a little jumping, so I figured it would be normal for it to do that. Going with the heavier material otta rid your problem for you. See, your not the only one

Even seeing a small piece broke off the edge is enough to scare me. We have to drive about 7 hours to Little Sahara, so I didn't want to be broke down that far from home and not be able to get a replacement. All I did, though was buy a factory replacement. I was thinking a thicker billet piece or a mild steel piece (like on our Quadracer) would be great. I didnt mean to be rude on the other post you had and I'm sorry if it came out that way. Most people would think you are abusing the quads to have that happen.Bubba

Bubba,

How long ago did you replace yours? and I take it that it is holding up better than the first one. I wonder if there was just a bad run of them. Did you notice if there was any large pores on the fracture surface of the broke one?

In regards to the other post I was having a bad week in dealing with Polaris on some other issues, all in all the machine are OK just disappointed the problems started when they were so new, I would expect things to show up when they are older not now.

Freakazoid, it was pretty porous material, you could tell not real sturdy stuff. I would geuss the new one is holdinh up better. I havent removed the shock cover to check it since I put that one on last year. I use this bike mainly as a duner and a drag racer now, so overall it doesnt get rode quite as much, though does get rode harder when it does. It might be time to look at it again.Bubba
