Default Fuel mileage while hauling a trailer

Well I have some hard numbers after my trip to Atoka.
8 MPG with my trailer (enclosed V nose approx 4500 Lbs).
I have a 97 Dodge Dakota with a 318 V8 & I think it has a 353 rear end.
With my truck loaded down with my Raptor & all my tools & gear I was getting about 16 MPG.
So my trailer halved my gas milage, I pretty much expected that, unfortunatly with gas prices at $1.50 a gallon I just spent $54 on a 300 mile round trip!!!!!

what kind of trucks do you guys& gals have?
What kind of fuel milage do you get with a similar load???

I'm going to have to start shopping for a bigger truck with better gas milage.
I'd like to get a Dodge Ram with a Hemi but need to know what kind of mileage it gets hauling a trailer.
What do you deisel guys & gals get??
I'm hoping that I don't have to get a deisel but there may be no choice.

'96 F-350 powerstroke auto with 120,000mi.

Unloaded driving sensably, 19mpg. The last time I checked it loaded it had about 80,000 on it. I was pulling a 24' gooseneck with a 1486 IH tractor on it. The truck weighs 6600lbs, the trailer weighs about 6000, and the tractor weighs about 13,500 with weights/filled tires/etc. That is about 26,000lbs. It has 4.10 gears and I went about 140 miles round trip. I reached speeds of 70mph on the highway and my average was 15.5 mpg.

My dad's 99 F250 powerstroke auto with 3.73s gets 16.8mpg average loaded and unloaded.

My '68 was rough on fuel. It had a holley dominator supplying a 521 stroker. It got about 4-5 gallons to the mile, 1/8mi at a time.

mines a 90 k2500 extracab long bed 4x4 350 silverado. i have 2 choices of trailers, both open. but hauled a weekend load, thats food , tent, coolers, tools, extra tires and rims, you know, all that stuff in the truck and two quads on the trailer and got 11.5 ....
unloaded and easy i get 13.5 its a heavy truck, and before vortec.
but it was a helluva load and did just great.

would do better in flatter country, we have your backorder release of mountains, Oklahoma!

i wouldnt go for diesel, i go for a big gas. what theyre doing with computerized fuel and trannys is awesome! but check it out and shop aroundddd...it yer bucks. see yas ;p

99 Dodge Ram 1500 w/318. Pulling loaded 2 place sled trailer with shield 10 mpg. Pulling 25' camper 4000# 8 mpg. Unloaded freeway about 13. What a gas sucker. Wish I still had my silverado 5.3.

I have a 2002 Dakota, 4X4 quad cab, 5.9 (360), K&N, free flow muffler, 3" exhaust with cab level shell. While pulling my 20' toybox (not self contained) with camping gear and two 03 Artic cat 400i, the truck gets 11.5 at 60mph and not pulling the trailer it gets 18.3 at 70 mph. The mileage varies alittle depending on the terrain.
