Default Front axle questions, 700sp

I lifted my 700 last year, and I'm now going to put 28" Mud Lites on it. I have about 725 miles on it, pretty hard riding. I understand that the lift and bigger tires will cause the front cv shafts to go sooner. Does anyone know what happens when they go? Is it a catastrophic failure, with loud ugly noises and flames and crashes, or do they just go gradually? How long does a stock cv last on a stock machine? I read somewhere that Gorilla Axles are lifetime warranteed and much stronger than oem. Basically I'm just looking for some advice on when I should expect to do my cvs, and what I should buy. Does anyone know how hard they are to change? Should I just do it now before they break?
Thanks for any help.
