what did polaris do to better waterproof their...
The belt housing on the older models was made out of a material that tended to warp a little, which allowed water to come into the housing. The newer models are made out of a different (and better) material.

That and in '03 and up they added a drain plug to the belt drive cover, so if you do take on water, just pull the plug and drain the majority of it out...
