Spring Spacers
#1
I have been reading the strings on broken axles and I kinda wanna stay clear of a lift kit!! I put 27" bi/tr on my Y2K 500 Auto and I need a little more clearance so Im gonna try the spring spacer rig. I have done the searches on spring spacers and I still dont have a clear understanding on where to put the spacer . I went to browns leisure world Y2K 500 Auto it is the 7th one from bottom, then to front suspension assembly I get an exploded view of the shock assebly. Could some one tell me between what components does the spacer goes and what size would you recommend not to put a bad angle on the cv joint? Your input sure would be a help.
Thanks Sly

I don't know exactly what your referring to as a spring spacer, but if it does what the name implies it would only stiffen the spring rate and would not affect your CV angles. The CV angles are restricted by the shock travel. If you stiffen the spring rate you will simply ride at the top part of the travel. Kind of defeats the purpose of long travel suspension. I ran 28"'s without a lift with no problems. Why do you need more clearance for 27"'s?

Sly i have spring spacers on my 500 01 auto. to put them on you have to take the shocks off and take them apart. the shocks come apart by compressing the spring and removing the aluminum piece on the top. once the springs are off put the spacers on the shock body and then put the springs back on. it didnt give me much lift. like 1/4" in the front and no lift in the rear. But it did take allot of the body roll away. the spacers i used were 7/16" think in the front and 3/8" in the back. i am running 26" 589's on it and it will still rub the front fender if my tires are turned and i hit a hard bump. i have about 1500 miles on it and havent had any cv joint trouble.

Sly,
I hear of more broken axles on the "i" model machines turning the big MEATS then anything. Not as many problems with the ACT machines twisting their axles. Don't know for sure but the problem COULD be the axles are made by a different company on the newer machines.
I haven't had any problems with the lift on my 2k 500. If you stay to the 1" lift you should be O.K.
The only problem I've had with my axles is torn boots. Take care of that right away and you save your CV!!
As far as the spacers, Cat500i and racnooc are right...not much lift...just a stiffer ride. In other words you will bottom out less.
