Default Best way to get the chain on the cams :(

I dont know but I goof up...
I first zip tied the chain to the frame, then ziptied it once to each cam..
LONG Story short.
I took my cams out cuz it would not line up with the marks on the cross bar..
I have it very close but its about 1 tooth differance. I just cant seem to get it..
how tight should the chain be for the exhaust to crank? I have it with no slack now....
What is the BEST way to get the cams on the mark and get the chain on..
Piston is locked at TDC. I

As long as you've got your TDC bolt in I'd cut the cams (zip-ties) loose from the chain...you are correct in keeping all your cam chain slack on the the intake/tensioner side. Once you get your new shims in place I'd put my exhaust cam in first and then intakes in second...my marks lined up also a little off...once you get intake cam in and tensioner installed rotate the whole thing by hand to make sure you don't have any binding. And by all means make sure you use loc-tite on your T-bone spacer bolts as suggested...

i'm not sure i understand the problem, but this is my take on it. i put the exhaust cam in place and put the chain on it tight like you said and then i put the intake cam in the chain, and slide it into the carrier, it take a few time if doing it to get them to line up rith but it has worked for me, maybe it isn't the right way but my machine seems to run fine, i've had to do it a few times so i figured out some ways that work for me, then when i put the tensioner in it seems to line up and looks good, like the manual shows. good luck
