As for as helmets goes the best you can buy is the shoei vfx-r which will set you back about $400 dollars. Little high for my standards but instead I chose the oneal sl 708 which is around $199 dollars. Overall am very satisfied with my decision. The helmet outer shell is made from kelvar which is much lighter and stronger then normal helmets. The inside is lined with coolmax padding with reduces sweat and heat that is also washable. Go check chaparrl-racing.com for a good selection of helmets.

I use an Arai Pro which I like very much. It is well ventilated & being made with carbon fiber, is very light in weight, an important feature in long or hard riding. The pads are removable for washing. Being Snell Or DOT approved merely means that a helmet meets certain minimum standards. It doesn't mean that all are of the same quality or offer the same protection. My previous skid lid is a Shoei which I retired after it took a major hit in a head-on with a Kx250

hot shoe is right, for looong hard riding get one that is light like carbon fiber. AXO RX3 is what I use . If we could buy it in the Philippines it should be available in the U.S. as well.

Check out the may issue of 4 wheel ATV action.
The May issue did a helmet shoot out! The price range was 200 and less.

I have an HJC and really like it. It's comfy, fairly ventillated, and not so expensive.

'98 Recon (red)
'00 400EX
'99 red Sierra to pull 'em with

Lucis,
You don't have to pay $400 for a good helmet. If they are Snell 95 and DOT approved, they will be very good. I have the Thor SVS, and it is a good helmet. After the foam fits to your head, it fits perfectly. Anyways, get what you like. I would strongly suggest you get a Snell 95 and DOT approved one though. This could very easily save your life one day.
