Help finding EBC brakes for 99 Sp500
#1
From what I've read on some of these posts, EBC brake pads are the ones to buy. I made the mistake of purchasing OEM heavy duty rear pads from my Polaris dealer....$55.00..ouch...bend over!
I've ordered EBC pads for the front from a local repair shop who said he could have them in a day. Well, a week later he says they should be here any day now, however, they are coming from Oregon...haven't seen them yet?
Any suggestions on where else I might try to obtain them? Are the Moose sintered pads as good as the EBC? I also understand EBC makes a sintered pad and a severe duty pad? My local guy did not have a listing for the severe duty pad for a 99 sp500? Looked in DK no luck?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

DP makes a good heavy duty pad too. Got my brakes
from a little dealer out in the middle of nowhere
in a few days. Look into the DPs if you can't find
the EBCs. I bought the OEMs once too cause he had
them in stock, will wait next time!

Folks,
Similar experience here. I ordered the EBC brakes (front and rear) from the local motorcycle shop (who is not a Polaris dealer). He promised deliver in 2 days. He called today to say it will likely be another week because the distributor doesn't stock the particular ones I want. No big deal, I will wait.
For the rear I ordered the EBC FA270R. EBC has the FA270X, the basic pad, the FA270R, the cintered(sp?) metallic pad, and the FA270SV, the severe duty pad.
For the front I ordered the FA159R.
The rear set was $40 Canadian and the front set was $25.50 Canadian (2 sets required). For you US guys, USD = CDN $/1.47.

I have tried ordering from all kinds of places, and all are always back-ordered on the Polairs EBC pads.
I have ordered sets from Moto-Man as well as Rocky Mountain ATV. Rocky is almost always out of stock on whatever I want to buy now days though.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. My local motorcycle shop finally came through for me. From the responses I received, waiting a week or so is not uncommon. I paid $17.50 for a pair for the EBC sintered pads. Not bad I guess. If these don't hold up I'll try the severe duty (carbon) pads in the future. Next time I won't tear the bike down until I have the parts in hand. Thanks again .....keep the rack side up!

same problem here ordered pads two weeks ago was promised to have them in two days.they finally showed up a week and half later.I ordered the severe duties for my 99 scramble 400 4x4.they said they would be hard on the rotors but if they last a year so what the rotor is only $12 they sceme to grab better than the stock ones.the severe duty OEM I put on lasted me about 20 hours and at 50 bucks pop that sucks. well good luck and have fun. Look for my post on U-joints and c/v boots could save you some big dollars if you need these items.
