I have a rancher i bought in november. since it was new if it idles for a period of time it dies. it is easy to restart, but does anyone have any ideas as to why? i carried it back to the dealer about two weeks ago and they said the mixture might be off in the carb. they adjusted it, but it still dies after about two or three minutes at idle. any suggestions would be appreciated.

without hereing it die myself i can only throw some guess's your way.
1. the idle is so low the compresson relece kicks in and kills it, (your would here clicking before it died)
2. the idle itself is just to low
3. the carb heat circuit is on causing a rich idle mixture
4. ?? alot of other things that I cant think of because it is late Anyone else have a idea?

Check your choke cable/linkage. Maybe it's holding the choke closed just enough to load up the carb. It doesn't take much at an idle. Just a thought.

Try bumping up the idle a little first. The idle adjustment know is easy to get to. Look in your owners manual for the exact location.

Yeh sounds like the idle is just to low.
turn the screw in the carb counter clockwise and is should idle higher.
Also do you still have the choke on after 3 min?

rember to tab the throttle as you turn up the idle..seems to make it adjust smoother

thanks for the input, i might give further explination. it dies when the machine has been warmed up and running for a period of time. i have the choke pushed completely off. i have idled the carb up so that it jumps pretty good when you put it in gear. but if i am out riding and stop to visit with someone and leave it running it will die after about 2-3 minutes at idle. as mentioned earlier it starts right back up easy enough but why does it die?? has anyone else had that problem or is it just unique to my machine? my 300 would idle all day, is this a rancher thing?

1.Idle your rancher back down. 2 Try a split fire spark plug.3 Ignore slams about this post. I swear by them.
