Raptor Axel Removal ~Help~
#1
I broke my brake caliper holder on the rear swingarm and need to pull the axle to get to it. Are there any special (EASY) way of doing this? I noticed it had two allens on one of the large nuts. I tried knocking them loose but nothing gives. I dont want to break anything so I am posting this before I do. Thanks and am most appreciated for any input given.

i no the axel nuts a hard to get off. i have not done it on my raptor but on my other four wheeler. i used 2 pipe wrenches and it was a pain so if you took the allen screws out you just have to put a lot of force and they will come loose try some wd-40 and let it soak they will come off a little easier. hope this helps you out

I had the same problem. I had to use 2 huge pipe wrenches and a 6' pipe to get my axle nuts off. Then getting the carrier housings apart was also a pain. I had to use WD on that too and then pound them apart with a hammer because of the rust. Anyway Good Luck.

I've found the inner nut sometimes tightens itself up against the outer nut. This jams them up pretty tight. If there is any slop or play in the brake rotor that's likely the case.
Try tightening the inner nut a bit and then loosening the outer - it's worked many times for me. Seems the stock inner nut works backward every 5-6 rides.....

I used 2 pipe wrenches as well. I would go ahead and replace the rear bearings while I was in there. Air, my stock nuts work theirselves loose using loctite....is the GYTR nut better for this sneaky problem?

Yes I just purchased the Billet Locknut, do I still keep the inner one as well or just he one billet one?
Thanks for the input on this. I will have to go get one more large wrench and some pipe, and I should have it apart.
Yes I read the book but at first it didnt say anything about the allen screws that I found int it. I think I messed up though, I saw the screw so I took it out, then I tried to take it apart for the life of me it wouldnt come apart then as it rolled over I saw the second allen and was I P!$$ed!! So, I couldnt get that one out and had to drill it out. But its still tight.
I soaked it up pretty good with wd40 and will do it again this morning before I go to work.
thanks again and will let you know the outcome. - if its bad or worse -

I am bummed!!!!!!!!!! I went and used the pipe and wrench and it turned quite easy, but since my last story about the allen screw messed me up big time. I screwed up the inner thread on the outer nut so when I pulled off the outer nut the inner wouldnt come off because the beginning threads on the outer nut was buggered up. I dont know what to do now but cut the bolt off but I dont know what cuz that bolt is made out of the hard steel. I believe if I can get that off a new one would go on. Any ideas? Or anyone with a axle??
This has bummed me out big time.
