What do you think of the Polaris Diesel

It was built like a tank, but slow. They were amazingly fuel efficient but slow. The motors lasted a long time with reasonable care, but they were slow. They could haul or pull great loads, but were slow.
I am not talking just slow, but s--l--o--w. Top speed barely above 35 or so, and took a looooonnnnggg time to get there.
I great machine for construction sites, hauled & pulled well, and used the same fuel as the rest of the construction equipment (that was it's original intent - fuel compatability for construction/farm use). However, it was so heavy, and did I mention slow, that it never caught on. I think the old 325 Magnums and 335 Sportsmans could outrun it in a drag race.

a "trail ATV?"
that diesel is soooooo loud it would disturb wildlife for miles! when they first came-out. i went to my local dealer to test drive one. i'm not a bit suprised Polaris ceased building them after only one year!
if you want a nice trail machine, i suggest a Sportsman500H.O.. the ride is top-notch, the power is ample, and the fuel economy is GREAT!

Celeste and I saw and heard one once while out in the woods. It sounded like part helocopter and part diesel truck.
I really don't know why they stopped making them, they made really good BOAT ANCHORS.

They WERE slow, but at the time they were made, if you chained any other quad I know of hitch-to-hitch, it would drag it around (but slowly).
Now that we have the 600+ cc quads, I couldn't tell ya what would happen.
Mike, they make good anchors, but only for a BIG boat!! LOL

Farmr 123,
Did I forget to mention that they were slow? Silly me, they were slow and over weight.
You're right about the boat anchor thing, it would have probably have sunk a bass boat or smaller.
And they were slow....
