My cousin and I are trying to polish his side covers on his 400ex. Problem is we can't find stripper strong enough to remove the paint. Is there a miracle strippper or another way?? Thanks

 

Sand blast it. If you dont want the ill effects of sandblasting they make a gun that shoots walnuts that takes off the paint, but doesnt make the surface quiet so coarse.

 

Or glass bead it (thats what I did), a machine shop should be able to do it for $20 or so

 

That's what I thought, I'll have to do a lot of sanding with different grits of paper.

 

If you blast your parts though they will not polish up that easily... you will still have to do quite a bit of sanding to get them smooth enough to polish....

 

Yes, my sand blaster leaves a rough surface. I have done this several times when I find an old aluminum part that is painted and I decided to polish it. I blast all the paint off then smooth my sandblasted surface with brown scotch brite, then red, next I use a rough steel wool, and finally a fine steel wool (#6). Now I start buffing with a heavy ruge on the bench grinder, continue the process and finish up the hard to reach by hand.
