you can do that but the carb wont work right. the carb vent hose need a vacume on it to raise the slide within the carb. throttle cable only controls the butterfly. would not go with carb mount filter if you use the stock carb. Just a warning.....

I'm in the process of making an adapter tube (only 2" long) between the filter and the carb. I welded in a hose adapter to connect the tube so the slide still gets it's reference vacuum.

From this adapter tube there will be a couple mounts attached to secure the rear of the carb to the plate just below it (you'll see it it has a couple holes in it). This will prevent the carb from being so loose with the carb mount.

I'll get you some pics if you want. It's a real sweet setup and should fix the low end sluggishness you get with the carb mount (slide refence line not attached).

is there enough room for an adapter? couldn't you just put a small hole in the rubber on the front or back of the air filter to plug the hose into?

I was wondering the same thing as gixer, if you were to cut the existing tube that goes from the airbox to the carb at the second rib, couldn't you make a hole in it and put the carb hose back where it used to be, then you would have your vaccum, right?

You've got to be talking about the clear/amber colored hose...I've been running the direct mount carb on my BSR42mm(stocker) for quite a while with just a filter on the end of that tube, "tie-tied" to the frame with no problemOs...I would have noticed if there was a problem with that config!

The 2" adapter I made not only holds the fitting, but has a bracket added to support the rear of the carb.

I was initially going to put a hole in the K&N rubber neck, but I found that with a little more effort, I could make it look a little more professional.

I looked at how the slide operates in the carb and it needs to see this differential pressure for the carb to work "correctly".

The reason you might not have noticed any change with the filter is because:
1. You never tried it having the line hooked up to the intake side of the carb with the direct mount K&N.
2. There was such an improvement with the direct mount K&N, that you were satisfied with it the way it was.

I'll finish it and let ya'll know how it goes in both configurations; with the adapter, and without the adapter.

Cheers,
Glenn
