Here's a couple pics of the adapter I made for the carn mount K&N filter.
Seems to work real well.

Adapter pic 2
You can also see in the pics that I re-located the fuse holders. They we just in the way and cause the filter not to seat all the way down in the frame area.

Your statement is my point.
How do you know it's running right? What do you have to base your conclusion from?
When you modfify a car engine (granted the DS is not a car but bear with me on this analogy) the performance shop makes sure that all the lines from the carburetor/throttle plate (for fuel injected cars) are hooked back up to the OEM location. They don't just throw a filter on it and call it good.
Mainly that is so the compter can meter fuel correctly in fuel injected cars. But in carbuerated cars, it's so the carbuerator is seeing all it's differential pressures for proper operation (timing, vacuum sencondary's, power valve, etc, etc...)
You can tune a carb to compenaste for the vacuum leaks, dirty filters and all other kinds of performance reducing scenarios. But the tune is only hiding the hidden problems in the fuel/air delivery.
If I was going to tune a carb, I would want all the lines or hoses hooked up in the correct configuration so the carb is working at it's peak performance. So when I tuned the jets and the needles, I knew.. without a doubt that my carb was working the way it was designed.
So with that said...
Build yourself one of these adapters.... see if it works. The only thing you'll be out of is the time to do it (took me londer to get the parts than make it). Shoot me an e-mail and I will be more that happy to send you some nice close-up shots so you can make a good duplication. That's what this forum is about... sharing information.
Plus, I already gave two of these things to forum members. I'll ship them out monday and let them do a test. I'm hoping them come back with feed-back... positive or negative. Or some improvement.
Thanks,
Glenn

You have a good point Gaskett, At the time I did it I was riding with two other Bombs and there was a big difference in the power going to the K&n so I don't know if the hose is hooked up properly.I was under the impresion that the only time that outlet is in use is during the choke opperation. When I started the bike up I got no vacume until I pulled the choke. Food for thought.

Gaskett,
Just a suggestion, you might install a fitting on the other side for the crankcase vent and allow the blowby back into the carb as well. I ran a set-up like this before changing carbs and was very happy with it.

KenDS,
That it a good idea. I'll see what I can do. My next plan is angle down the intake side a little to improve seat clearance. I'll come up with a drawing and post here ina few days. Let ya'll tell me what ya think about it.

Look like a great set up, and the points listed all make sense.
I would like a few close up pictures to build myself one. This would work great to make filters and out wears last longer, I am on my third set.
