Home-made adapter for carb mount K&N
#1
Here is some pics of the home-made adapter for the carb mount K&N.
I was concerened about the loss of the reference vacuum on the top side of the vacuum diaphram for the slide. I didn't just want to throw a crankcase filter on there and call it good. So, I made this little adapter to go between the filter and the carb.
It seems to work just fine and the carb is getting a reference vacuum just like the stock configuration.

I used a piece of 2.5 inch radiator hose for the coupling on the carb. I used a piece of 2.5" exhaust pipe for the adapter. I drilled a hole in the pipe, and screwed in a teflon 3/8" elbow. I put some JB weld on the threads for sealing/adhesive. I then used a piece of 3/8" Tygon lab grade flexible hose for the connection between the elbow and the carb.
Any more info please e-mail at gaskett@cfl.rr.com
I have extra of everything, so if someone wants one, send me an e-mail we'll work out the details.

Great idea! I have been running the k&n carb mount and have wondered about the reference vacuum as well. Does it make any difference in the throttle reponse or performance of the stock carb?

I run the 45mm carb and have a real bad rub on the filter and outerwear from my seat. Your creation looks like it will solve that problem as well. Good job and thaks for sharing.

That is a good question, how well does your modification do in preventing the K&N filter from rubbing on the seat? If it prevents the problem completely, I think you may want to market that kit. It would be a great kit for people with the 45s and those without, 3hp is 3 hp good for anyone who doesn't ride near mud.

It hasn't been "perected" yet by no means.
To completely remove the filter to seat interferance will require some offsets to be put in the adpater. Havn't really applied that much work to it yet.
Too many other projects going on (custom built chopper, drag car engines, and lifted trucks)
