Need a Quad for my Son. Suggestions?!
#1
Whoops! Screwed that up! Anyway my son is 8 years old and he is as big as most 12 yr olds. I have to buy him something for this summer and I need to get him something he can follow me around on in the dunes. I would like to stay with a four stroke though. He jumped on a buddies 400 EX and he was riding the crap out of it pretty good, but that was on some real small dunes though. I think I would get nervous with him on that big of quad when we head to the bigger dunes. Any suggestions?

Honda 250EX or Suzuki LTZ250 (Out in May). Both are Manual shift centrifugal clutch quads. The LTZ250 should be a little faster, but there are a bunch of mods that can be done to the 250EX, to bump up the performance. Most likely the same will be true for the LTZ250 once it is released. Either one would be an excellent beginner quad and to some extent can be modified for increased performance as his riding skills mature.

Heres what I think. First off, A Blaste ris the best machine out there for your size kid, but it is a 2 stroke. The Kasea 250 is a cool machine, but I don't think I would sink the money into it until it has been out a few year. The 250ex is a good machine for playing. Seems it would be way under powered for the dunes. The 300ex has a clutch, so you can help it a bit ove rthe 250 ex. The 400ex is the best Honda has out. Size I think you are right, it is a full size quad. Go with the 300ex.

angry i just bought my boy a 400 he will be 10 this month but i had him on a blaster and he had that under control real quick, i think you should look into the 400 because those little guys do nothing but grow, a thought would be a throttle limiter like on the smaller machines. but i just tell mine to take it easy, but i think he is think i'm dumb he had the kx 65 and that thing would jump out from under you real easy. the blaster is nice but it uses more gas than the ds.

Dont go to big at first if he gets in a bad situation and gets scared he will not enjoy ridding. It is easier to buy a smaller less powerful machine and trade up when his skills increase. The smaller bikes dont loose thier value that bad and build skill and confidence.

they are right, the smaller machines do build riding ability but, they do get angry when they can't go where dad goes. i figure i only have a year or maybe two before my son out rides me. so i guess keep him on a small machine to keep him behind there are several kaseas that look nice stay away from the 125 my brothe rgot two of those and couldn't get rid of them fast enough. i know trinity does some neet stuff on the two stroke 90. the other thing to remember if they can't keep up with you your ride sucks. but when they are able to stay with you because they have a good machine it rocks. the older honda 250x seems to do good in the sand, with kids. the starting is a little hard.
