Default scrambled scrambler

I am looking for ideas for troubleshooting. I got my 400X super stuck today. My cousin has an '01 400 Scrambler 4x4. He was pulling me out when his belt started smoking some. We immediately scrapped that idea. Anyway, this is the problem. The rest of the way back to the trucks, the thing was acting like it was slipping in and out. When he would gas it a little (put some load on it), it would engage and disengage like the clutch or gearbox was slipping somewhere. Any ideas on what may be wrong? Thanks.

If the belt was smoking most likely just replacing the belt will take care of the problem.

Yep, sounds like you burnt the belt up. It is easily done when trying to pull anything with a Scrambler or any other kind of sporty Polaris. The pulling stuff has to be left to utility Polaris's with a low gear. Replace the belt and everything will be fine.

Thanks for the info guys. I will talk to my cuz tonight. It will be nice if the belt is the problem. I was afraid we would be looking at something a little more serious.

must be the belt, check the sprocket too,if you burned a belt a clean up
of the clutch then will be a good thing.

It would be a good idea to scrap a stock belt and just replace it with an HPD belt. They are a couple dollars more, but you certainly get what you pay for.

Why pay more for the HPD kevlar belt when you can get the Gates belt at NAPA for less. Gates makes the HPD belt. The Gates belt #19AT4090 for a non ebs machine

BigBadScrambler, we tried to get the belt at Napa. They could not find the belt by the part number or description. Also tried to cross reference at AutoZone. No luck. Ended up with the Polaris belt.

My scrambler did somewhat what you are describing, but it would go only so fast and then it would just rap up and would not gain speed. The secondary clutch would not spread apart. I figured out that it was the wear buttons in the secondary clutch, you can replace those for about $6, but you have to get them from a polaris dealer.
