Default Problem with shifter on 99 trail blazer

I just spent about 650 bucks on getting stuff on my quad fixed. Now after riding it for only about 3 days the shifter decides to screw up. Basically I noticed the gears were getting looser. To get into high gear I would have to pull the shifter into reverse and slam it forward. The other night it just would not shift and the shifter just wabbled around. So I looked under the body where this rod attaches to the shifter and they were detached. Either a screw broke or it came unscrewed, but I cant't tell. I will try to get a pic up later tonight. Thanks in advance for any help!

The shifter linkage is a rod, with ball joints on each end. One end is left-hand thread, the other is right-hand thread. That way, simply turning the rod one way or the other will lenghten or shorten the linkage. There also should be a jam nut at BOTH ends, to 'lock' the rod into place against the ball joints. If they work loose, the rod can turn from engine vibration, knocking it out of adjustment. If one end came out completely, be sure that the jam nut is there. If not, put one on. You can take the rod to a hardware store, and they should be able to match up the right-hand threaded one. The left-hand thread one might be hard to find, though. Might need to get that one at the dealer.
