I have a 01 DS 650 with a RWR CDI box, stock pipe with custom end cap, K & N in air box(no lid), Dynojet kit (195 main, 3rd groove on the needle, 3 turns out on air), 17 tooth front sprocket, and 20" RAZR 2's on the rear. Well here is the problem, my buddie has a bone stock 01 DS 650 he just bought, it was a Bombardier demo quad, like brand new, he paid 4500 for it, well anyway I will get him off the start but he will catch me at the end of 3rd gear and pass me by 2 or 3 bike lengths by 5th gear. I can't understand why my quad is slower,I would think with the taller gearing I would be faster on top.

do you have more weight than him? my brother is 20 pounds lighter than me and he pulls me by that much, with the 17 it was worse

 

I probably have 15 - 20 pounds on him, should I go back to the 16 tooth front sprocket. I thought the weight thing only affected the bottom end acceleration and not on top end???

 

Does anybody think my jetting looks correct???

 

You may be a little rich @ WOT with the DJ195. With similar mods (Pro-Circuit slip on instead of modded end cap, RWR CDI, K&N in the box no lid) I found the DJ190 was better. I went back to the 195 when I went to the carb mount. I was also at 2 1/2 turns out on the air/fuel screw.

 

17 is steep.
I have a stage 1 and slightly over 16/40 gearing and 5th is hard.. I would go back to 16..

 

i know that weight thing sucks, but we made several runs and i kept losing and he was happy to let me lose. so i finally said ok maybe he was a better rider. so we did 5th gear roll ons and guess what he would just pull away, didn't matter which quad. you might want to try a switch and see if things are any different. that is why people see different results on quad races. unless there the same size it is all just what happened that time.

 

I also ordered a Trinity pipe on 3/10, it shipped today so I should have it next week, I hope after I install it I wont have any more problems with my buddies DS . Does anyone have the Trinity pipe yet, and do they send jets with it, and most important do you like the performance gains???[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

You will be very pleased with the performance gains from the stage4 exhaust, they do send the jets you need and instructions for different levels of engine mods.......it looks cool when it turns gold from the heat, but with all rain lately I have to much free time so I keep polishing mine....I used the 190 main jet they sent and a 45 pilot jet, stock air box with lid removed and a K&N, 3 turns out on the gas screw, runs perfect...Hey Sandman......I am going to try to be at Florance this wknd, probably south jetty again.......

 

hey rotax did you get your gear changes? that would be cool to line up a bunch of ds's against the banshees,went last weekend had a hard time with the 22" tires the sand was soaked think i may have to up the pressure more. well i'll be looking for you.
