CV Joint Boot Replacement
#1
I've got an '02 Sportsman 400. I have a tear in one of the inner CV boots in the rear. If possible I'd like step-by-step instructions on how to replace it. Right now I have the old boot unclamped and slid out of the way. I unbolted the upper A-arm so that I can pivot the hub on the lower A-arm and slide the CV joint back and forth in the housing. I've called two dealers in the area, and they said to just jerk it out. I tried this, and I broke a pipe wrench trying to pry it out. I'm at my wits end with this problem, so any feedback would be apprieciated. Thanks.

Thats kinda what I've decided. But I figured if anyone had any tips on this, it wouldn't hurt to ask. I just hate having to pay a dealer $100 to replace an $18 part.

Check w/another dealer. I had this same issue two weeks ago on my SP600. The delear I went with charged me $10 for the boot, and the labor was $65. One delar quoted me $25 for the boot, and $68 for labor. Think they just make the numbers up as they go. lol
Good luck.
Good luck.

Man, that is a good question. I really do not remember. I know I ordered it off the internet somewhere. Just do a search for Hayne's ATV manuals and you will find some by Clymer and Hayne's. Your model?? Who knows you just have to look. If you are pretty good mechanically though I would get a repair manual from your dealer. If you are just starting out like I was 4 years ago though, a Hayne's or Clymer would be your best bet as they show more step by step whereas the repair manual is more info. Sorry I don't have a link for ya.
