Opinions on new 4x4
#1
Hi everyone.
I'm new to these forums, but I've been reading for a while. I'm looking to buy a utility sometime over the next 2-3 months. I have pretty much narrowed down my choices to the Suzuki Eiger 400 and the Yamaha Kodiak 400. Being a gps nut, I have also thought about the new Honda Rancher AT GPScape 400. I have a handheld that I could just mount to the bars, but I'm a gadget freak. I just cant find any pricing info on that model.
So here are the particulars:
I'm 6'1 210 lbs. I'll be using this mostly for trail riding, but since I live in a hole called New Jersey, I'll have to travel to do it with the exception of a little private ground I have permission to use in the area. I am more concerned with a reliability and mechanical soundness rather than high performance. I dont have any interest in racing this thing. I just want to ride the trails and climb whatever I feel like .
I have some limited riding experience. I have never owned a quad, but know my way around with one.
Thanks for your help here. I'll enjoy reading your opinions.

I find the new rancher 400at very interesting. It has the same automatic transmission as the rubicon and has traxlock so it can be switched to 2 wheel drive and since it is a honda it will be reliable. If reliability is your primary consideration it would be at the top of my list.

Great... and now I had to go and look at the Vinson Auto. Now I'm really confused.
I've made up my mind somewhat. I'm gonna go with the Suzuki, just dont know if it'll be the Vinson or the Eiger.

I am very happy with my 01 Rancher ES, I would buy one of the new 400's in a heart beat.
I have heard very good things about the Vinson, and many people prefer the control of the manual transmission. If you have made up your mind that you must have a suzuki, the Vinson will be nicer than the eiger. Post your question in the suzuki forum if you need more specific tech advice on exactly what you want or need.
