Can we handle the Rubicon?
#1
yes, we can!
I would like to hear your opinions on how the Magazine shootouts will go with the Rubicon VS the mighty Mag, Griz, and other capable adversaries... Can a Tranny over shadow the 4 wheel drive capabilities, the disc brakes, the plush suspension, and other things "miscalculated" by the Honda designers?
I think not... but what I need seems to be very different than what others want or need.
Will there be a de-throning on the Mag and SP? No, I doubt it... What do you think?

If all of those things happened to everyone, then Polaris wouldn't still be selling so many. I am not saying they never happened, I am just saying it's not normal.
And what's the deal with grease zerks? Come on guys! Many people have to put their own in Yamahas and Hondas because they don't have adequate lubrication, and it's not fun to constantly tear it down to grease it. Some where in the Honda forums some one was talking about this recently.

I agree about the zerks. When I purchase parts for my truck, I will always choose the part that I can grease easily, even if it cost more. Better then having to taer a part apart to do it. I am happy Polaris lets us grease em with the ease of zerks.

I have to disagree with the grease fittings. I have never had a quad that had any failure due to a lack of them. 85 yamaha 200- 5 years, no faults. 86 yamaha 225- 8 years, no faults. 89 honda 300- 11 years, no faults. I would rather be without them, because if you do have them, then you had better make sure you keep them lubed up good. If it needs to be greased, then the lack there of could cause a problem. If not, then no problem other than old age and wear could happen, and I haven't had that one happen to me yet.
Another thing about grease fittings, it seems that most folk on this forum don't or won't keep the same quad for longer than 5 years anyway, and quads without grease fittings will see no problems in that lenght of time. I just don't think that this is a very big deal. I mean, my old honda has no problems other than brakes, and I know better than to grease them. The grease fitting thing isn't a factor in my eyes.

I want go out and buy one but I predict that it will win all of the Magazine Shoot outs on the Tranny alone and of course the normal Dirtwheels quote Honda Realibility. But I would never trade my belt slipping, tie rod eating, to unrealible Sportsman for one.And lets not forget to many zerks.
But on the bright side I do think it will be good for the industry.
I love my Polaris.

Why would you want grease fittings? I enjoy not having the extra maintenence. The SP500 has something like 32 grease fittings on it. The dealer at home recommends doing that every 2-3 rides. Don't get me wrong, Polaris is a decent bike, but when I want to go ride, I just hop on and go. There is no "pre-ride" maintenence.

Well from the latest info, it appears that the Rubicon will have a 2WD-4WD option.
Also, the Rubicon will up the bar forcing Polaris & Yamaha to make improvements to there quads to keep up. The bottom line is we (the consumer) wins because the machines keep getting better & better.
Polaris might be the # 1 seller in the midwest, but not in the North west. Honda & Yamaha outsell Polaris by far up here.
