i've heard that the new 600/700 sportsmans have a different kind of diff lock than the 500, is this true? is it better than the 500? any info would be great. because im looking at buying a new polaris and i want the 500 because of its history and $$ but if the 600 has a better locking than diff than i'll get it . thanks in advance

The two are the same in principal of operation and nothing has changed in that respect. The hilliard clutch is now in the front crankcase as opposed to having 2 outboard hubs on the 500. 2 less places to fill oil and 2 less possible places to leak. Less prone to snagging a magnet wire since they do not run down the struts any more. No potential problem with hitting a rock with your hub. And the best improvement of all is there is no more intermitant locking up of one wheel.

i never had a wheel lock up on me in 3,700 miles on my old 425. I like how the hub looks on the 500, i don't like the look of that dinky new thing they got on the end of the 600/700. I think the black part of the hub makes it look good but thats just my opinion. Only reason i would care for the new style is if they diidn't hesitate locking in when you were on a hidle or coming out of a mud hole and the back wheels have to turn a littke before the front wheels start turning.

So far, they are bullet proof. Have'nt read about one single dissatisfied owner.

Sure wish that they would let us still grease them.
For the $300.00 more I would go for the 600.
I have a 500 HO, but the 600 has it.. Dump the sway bar, you will like it.
