Anyone selling a TRX250r in the Northwest?
#1
I am looking for a 250R and wondering if anyone in the Northwest is selling one for $3000 or less. I wasnt sure where else to post this so I apologize if this is the wrong place. Please reply or email me at hollywood_614@yahoo.com. Thanks. I am looking to get a quad soon and want the 250R but may have to settle for the LT250R from Suzuki since they seem to be more affordable to me right now. Thanks again and keep the shiny side up.

Just check the cycle trader at your local grocery store magazine rack. There's always 5 or 6 of them for sale in there. Just remember when buying one to look at the welds on the frame. Especially the ones at the shock mounts, motor mounts, and the swingarm/rear suspension area. They're an old bike....new paint around welded areas (or new welds) usually means that there was a crack in there before.

Thanks for the info and suggestions. I have been watching the cycle traders but most everything is $4000 or more in there so far. I am trying to follow the 'kung fu' saying "patience grasshopper", but I want something soon so I dont miss any of the early riding weather. I did find an '86 TRX for $3300, just trying to decide if I can swing it. Its stock, never been bored, has all new bushings and hasnt been raced. Mosty stored for about the last 10 yrs. Guess I will have to drive up and look at it.
One question -- Why are most all of the TRX's for sale from the year 1986? Was that just the most popular or is there some other reason?

Well here is my thoughts on why more 86 models are for sale. As with everything else you learn as you go so the 86 being the 1st model the 87, 88, 89 got better every year. They reworked the cylinder in 87, they reworked the bottom end in 88,89. They shorten the swingarm in 88 to make it more ballanced the list goes on and on with gearing, cooling ,etc. I have both an 86 and 88 both set up for MX completely modded and the 88 handles better on small tracks but in the real rough stuff the 86 is better. Both the motors have been modded highly so power on both would be hard to say which was better stock. I do know in cross country racing even racers using the 88,89 use an 86 swingarm for better weight for climbing . All in all any year is the top machine but its really how much you ride ,what you have, and how you plan in the future to use it. Good luck and make sure as they said above check the frame for cracks , take the seat off and check the frame to make certain it is straight. check it over very good as it is an old but very good quad.
