You should be fine riding without an outerwear, Your filter may get dirtier faster, but not too much, unless you are riding in extremely dusty conditions. Plus you will get more airflow with the outerwear off, which eqals more power.

No you do not clean it the same way, you will need to buy K&n filter cleaner, and the k&n filter oil.. u can get these at your local motorcycle shop most likely. The cans(cleaner, oil) should have a cleaning procedure on them. U may be able to clean it with soapy water or other cleaners but i would just buy teh k&n cleaner to be on the safe side, because certain things can damage the cotton fibers in teh filter.. anyways i think thats what it says on my box that mine came in..

Chevraptor,
Just a quick note, I have used Simple Green to clean the K&N in my truck, cleans the oil out very well, rinses easy with water, and is safe for the environment. And it is a lot cheaper than the K&N cleaner.

I have heard of people using that also, I just put a K&n on my raptor, havent cleaned it yet, and i know you can use simple green to clean about everything. So i guess whatever works, i'll have to try simple green out on it.
