Kitsatchee Forrest in Louisiana
#1
We rode Kitsatchee today. It was great. It was my first time at Kitsatchee. The trail is a 23 mile long circle and passes through both the corral and lotus camp grounds. We drove over early and got home early, but for those who must drive further; the camp grounds are really good for RV camping and tent camping. Good bathrooms are available for the ladies. Lots of parking for the trucks and trailers. The trail has some water and plenty of mud for the mudders. In the twenty three miles, I don't think we ever saw a place that was level or straight. Most of the time, you are either going up hill or down hill, or you are making tight turns. I only got stuck once and my Foreman was only laying on its side once. It was a good day.

I'm not sure how to get to the campground from I-49, but 22 miles north of Leesville, La. on highway 117, you will see a forest service maint. facility. Turn east on the paved road and drive about four miles to the Lotus campground entrance. It is marked and you can't miss it if you are paying attention. If you are coming from I-49, you will get to the Corral campground first. Both campgrounds have entrances to the trail.

Kajun get off at the Natchitodes exit on 1-49. Head south like you are going to Many La. About 5 miles down the road you will see a bar called bedrock. Take a left there that is 117. Head south for approxiamatly 15 to 20 minutes. You will come across what looks to be two ranger areas. You want to turn on the road next to the second ranger station with a fenced in area with a few ranger trucks in it. Once there follow dusty1 directions the rest of the way. One tip. When you come to a town called Provencal (its approx. 5 miles from the beginning of 117) do exactly the speed limits or they will ticket you. Yes they ticket for 1 mile an hour over the speed limit. Its a good place to ride if you have a 4x4 dont sugguest bringing your R.

Kajun, just drove up to shreveport from Lake Charles. On the way I went ahead and did a milage check for you. Its 4.4 miles from I-49 to the turn to 117. Just remember there is a bar named Bedrock you should look for, take a left there. Then its 15.5 miles from the turn off for 117 to the turn for the ranger station. My trip odometer may be a little off but not by much. When you get to a (small) town called Bellwood your only 2.2 miles from the turn for Kisatchie. I remember you telling me about your 4x4 just slipped my mind. It happens.

I looked on my Delorme mapping software and it looks like you can save about forty miles by not going all the way up to the Natchoteches exit on I-49 if you are coming from Lafayette. It looks like you should take the highway 119 exit off 49, and then drive southwest on 119 to the PR 830 intersection. PR 830 is the road both corral and lotus camps are on. Don't ask me what PR stands for.
