friend needs help ...oil/temp light
#1
My friend started his 03 ds650baha today and the oil/temp light stayed on...so hes flipping out and i told him it is prolly something stupid.
First we took the plug of the sensor and the light went out im thinking its just a sensor, he says no there is something wrong and its going to blow up . I said if it didnt have no oil pressure wouldnt it be clacking and ticking? Next we took the oil filter off and cranked the engine with the kill switch off it puked out oil with only two cranks...so it apears to have oil pressure. What do you guys think???? Hes going to bring it to the dealer sat. and hes not even sure there going to work on it on sat. and we wanted to go riding on sun. Help!

the oil pressure sensor is $10 from dealer, but they may have to order it.
a pressure gauge can be screwed in its place to check oil pump performance - the shop manual has the specs of what the pressure should be at what RPM, but I'm at work and don't have access now to tell you them.
I wouldn't ride unless positive its the sensor, 99% chance its just the sensor though - lots of us have had to replace them

had a problem like this except it wasn't the oil sensor it was the water sensor. replaced it and the problem was gone. It seems the sensors aren't that great to start with. search the site there are some manual gauges you may like and they are more factual. When one sensor or the other shorts out it will set the light off. Da bom has been known to have this problem.

I have had 4 oil sensors go out. I went out and bought five of them just in case. It always seems to go out after I wash my DS so i've come to the conclusion that it has to be water getting into the sensor and shorting it out.
