tm42 how to disengage the ac pumpto ease the thumb
#3
I got the tm-45 recently and the carb is meant for a twist throttle so that is why it kills the thumb. I found on a search in the forum that to reduce the resistance you can unhook the spring in the thumb throttle area. Witch really helped!
That way you do not have to disengage the ac/pump.

Disable the pump.
I disabled mine this weekend. It does not make any differance if you have your carb tuned. Trust me, I was at snake hunt this weekend and a really smart DS person made me disable it due to tuneing problems. I was worried but it ran MUCH MUCH better with out it.. Plus it wastes gas.

i was told to live with the stiff thumb throttle but didn't want to hightower said he used his stock cable so i though wow i'll try that. well to all that said live with it to bad for you, the tm 45 isn't much more than the stock with the right cable. gary at tvi has the stuff to change the cable end, but the stuff on my 42 switched right over, and the funny part is i was riding with markynark and we pulled my seat off and he said i could remove the spring for the pump that is still on my carb. meaning mine could be even easier to push. so if your throttle is stiff do some more checking it doesn't have to be that way. thanks hightower the cable thing worked great.
