Everyone breakin rear axles!!!!
#1
Everyone I have talked to on the trail or otherwise is breaking the rear inner splined part of the axle. I talked to a guy that broke his hunting in Colorado on a 400i, stock everything. So it's not the added hp of the 03' 500i. I have seen several people on the trail with 589's, bugs, stocks, you name it, they have all broken a rear inner.
The problem with this is there is no aftermarket replacement including the Gorilla axles. They have to reuse the inner splined pcs.
I'm dumping this thing the first chance I get. Sorry, AC lovers but it's got to go. I've owned most every bike out there and this one is the most problematic. 2 Honda 450's, Grizz600, Big Bear350, Sportsman 500HO.
On the positive side I rode with a Honda 450 last weekend and tore him up. He had 28X12.50's on all 4, locker, 550cc big bore kit, everything you can have on a Honda. He got smoked by the Cat and the Grizz in every hole.
The 650 V-twin looks pretty promising. I have not rode against one in a hole but I've seen many on the trail and everyone that has one loves it. No IRS but it has a locker. I think after this predicament with the Cat I will go back to the solid axle. I would rather get stuck a little more and make it home.
AC needs to do something about this problem. And they need to do it quick. They will loose alot of business in the near future. How do you think Honda became such a big seller, word of mouth that they are tough as nails. What do you think will happen to AC when word of mouth gets around???????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????

which twin 650 are you talking about!
The guys with the grizzes i rode with Sat. said they cannot keep bearings in their bikes. They say they have still not started building selaed bearings in the grizzes. Also 1 of the bike had snapped their two FRONT axels at pots! He said he was not even ridding in the nud but going from pint A to B up a small inclined hill. He said it sound like 2 poles claging together when they snapped. So i dont think it just The Cats! ALso the guy on the Kodiak I rode with snapped his a week ago.

Kawie Prarie 650. Just a thought. I ride with a Grizz and see plenty on the trail. The drivetrain is ok if you keep the belt dry. They just overheat alot!!!
Everyone I have talked to lately has broken a rear axle on a Cat. These are not mudders, these are older guys goin huntin with stock tires. They are about ready to burn the Arctic Cat dealership to the ground.

hey jason at gorilla joints is working on a new complete axle right now. i took him my broke rear axel and he started today. so i would say hang in there help is on the way. good thing is he said he is going to do it like the polaris axles and should be able to run at 38 to 40 degree angle. after looking at my broke splines he said the metal is real soft. he is going to fix this. i will keep yall posted. this might take a month because we are going to have to do some r&d, but when we are finished he is going to order like 50 sets. he said i could run a 3 inch lift. i can live with that

So gorilla axle will have a replacement piece for the inner splined peice that goes into the diff? If that's the case I will hang loose. I don't mind paying for the new axles I just don't want to break down anymore. When I talked to him a few months ago he said that I would need toship my axle to him and he would use the old splined peice and weld it to the new CV.
