Hey everybody.. I have a question.. Have any of you ever been riding and have to use four wheel drive and engage it, then look up and the front wheels not spinning? I was riding my Sp the other day and I was climbing these little cliffs out by my house and I thought I engaged it but I looked at the left front tire and it wasn't turning. I let off, took it out of 4x4 and put it back in.. came back up and it worked. What's the deal here? Have any of you had this problem? I mustnt've had it engaged or something cuz I've drove it up to a 4 foot cliff and all 4 tires spun.. I don't get it..

 

On the sportsmans and all other 4 wheel drive polaris atvs as far as i know, require the back tires to spin before the front tires will engage. Of course, like you said, you might have not had the switch all the way over.

It also may have to do with when you engaged the switch. My 99-sp500 has had this happen once when I was riding around in low range without stopping I engaged the 4X4 switch and nailed it,low and behold the front wheels did not drive and I was stuck.

When I got home it was time to break out the manual and there was the answer if you engage the 4x4 switch with more than 4,000-rpms the front wheels will not engage. Hope this helps.

 

Well, I was riding yesterday and I went with a Foreman 450. I out mudded him I think cuz I tried something he wouldn't.. he chickened out so I am sayin that I out did him. But once again, I looked down and my left tire wasn't spinning.. but then I took it out, put it back in and tried to get out again but it worked then.. all in all I got stuck and when i engaged it again all the tires were turning! That is the VERY FIRST time I've ever gotten pulled out when I was on it. Awesome machine!!
