Default quick advice on takoing off gas tank

I am getting ready to adjust my float bowls because my raptor keeps cutting out for some reason so i figure it because this. So anyway i took the plastic off and i dont know how to take the gas tank off. Do i just have to turn the fuel valve to off or is the something else that i have to do besides this.

ya turn it off and undo the 4 bolts and it will come right off you may have to disconnect the fuel line but that is easy just make sure you turn off the gas before disconnect..

Alsdo you think that this is my float bowls because its cutting out and also there is a little bit of black smoke that comes out of the exhasut pipe when running, but this just started happening.

If it isn't your floats then it sounds like dirt in one of your main jets. Does it idle okay but die out at 1/2 throttle or so? If it dies out especially on hill climbs or wheelies, I would bank on it being your floats.

You can check your float level without taking the tank off and measuring. In fact, measuring your floats is just a guestimate anyhow. Ultimately, you have to check the level of gas in the bowls.

You can do this by putting a clear piece of tubing on the bottom of your carb with the other end up in the air off to the side. Open the screw so gas flows into the clear tube. It will fill up the tube to the height it is in the carb bowl. It should be at or slightly above the line where the carb bowl connects to the carb.

I am not the expert on this so wait for a few people to agree or disagree.

Just noticed another post. RaptorRidr660r said the same thing. OK, I am sold on the idea.
