450 foreman shocks on a 400 foreman?
#1
I have just purchased a 400 foreman that has the 26" blackwater bigwheel kit. the ride is pretty unforgiving with these hard tires. I want to lift it and gain more suspension travel. i have seen some 450 foremans that have two shocks in the back and was wondering if anyone knows if these will bolt straight up to the 400 foreman.

A while ago I actually bought 4 take off shocks from a 450. I hoped to increase the height of my 400 to the stock height of a 450 and I also have one rear shock that sags slightly. I paid $100.00 for all 4 which I thought was a bargain.
When the shocks arrived I thought everything was good to go as they looked like they would bolt right up, WRONG! I put the rear shocks on first and they went on alright but they increased the height way more than I had anticipated. Just for fun I left them in place and then tried the fronts. I couldn't even begin to get them in place, with the front drivelines pushed clear to the bottom of their travel range the 450 shocks were not even close to fitting in place. I had a mechanic friend of mine look at them and he said he could fabricate a bracket that would allow them to fit but to me this was senseless. To make a long story short, yes they can be " Made " to fit but they won't bolt right up, atleast the fronts won't. Since my little experiment with the 450 shocks I've wondered how guys put Works or Progressive shocks, which are longer than factory, and a lift on their machines? One reason I like my 400 so much is it's low center of gravity. Yes, I would like a little more ground clearance but I finally decided that the trouble I would go through to gain a little was not worth it. By the way, I resold the shocks on Ebay to a guy that is rebuilding a wrecked 450 and I lost $22.00 from my original purchase, go figure.
