Raptor counterbalancer?

Default Raptor counterbalancer?

The other day I skimmed through the Bomb forum, and someone was talking about removing the counter balancer and lightening the crank(more power, faster revs)?

What are the opinions here, Could you maybe not remove it, but balance and lighten the crank, then also lighten and balance the counter balancer, so it would still do it's job and keep down vibrations, but weighing less, would let the engine rev up quicker, (with the less rotating mass).

Wouldn't this equal more power eventually getting to the rear wheels and faster do to the lower energy level it would take for the motor to rev itself?

If I am way off track or not so far off, let me know your opinion........what do you all think..........
(I do not know anyone local to where I live that I would trust to try this though)

I think it is possible to lose some weight of the balancer, but not enough to make it worth while for the cost. And this might be way off to, but I'm sure somebody will correct me if it is.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img] You would start by removing as much weight from the piston as possible, then the crank, and then the balancer. It might possibly need to be in a ratio, so removing 15 grams from the piston wouldn't mean to take 15 grams off the crank and balancer. If you did some home work I beleive you could lose some weight, but would it be worth it is the question? Just my opinon.

I figured you would maybe have to do it in proportion, I was just wondering myslef, would it be worth the trouble and cost.....sounds like a big fat NO!

I would think no but like I said you would need to look into it to be sure. How much does a stock piston weigh compared to an extrmely lightened 12/1 stock bore piston? That might give you some kind of starting point. I do think it is a VERY neat idea![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif[/img]

how about lightining up everthing that the countershaft sprocket has to spin, instead of the engine internals?

bolt an aluminum axle in the rear. this would be better than doing any lightining inside the engine. think about it.......the engine is connected to the axle.....so anything you lightining that is directly moved by the engine should be a gain in power and performance. (rear wheels,rear hubs,axle,rear brake rotor,chain,sprockets) if you could loose 10 pounds in that area it sould be like a port job and higher compression. it will take less power it get it up to speed, kinda like a faster revving engine.

just a thought.....in my opinion, i would do that first , then go to work inside the engine to get more..[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]
